Music at Alverstoke Junior School
Here at Alverstoke, we have a varied and busy musical timetable! We are a school that loves to sing. Our Wednesday morning choir on is open to all children and is free of charge. We have taken part in the Alverstoke Christmas Tree Festival and Young Voices, a massed choir participating in a concert in the O2 in London. We also have a more advanced ‘Chamber Choir’, who rehearse twice a week at lunchtimes.
We offer individual and small group music tuition in singing, brass, woodwind, drumming, guitar, piano and violin. These cost £40 per term and are subsidised by the school. We also offer larger group lessons (about 6-8 children) for recorder and fife at £20 a term; perfect for a child beginning to take up music tuition. Instrumentalists are invited to join our Tuesday morning Orchestra as soon as they are ready – they progress quickly, gain confidence and make new friends.
In the summer term, we are introducing ‘Rocksteady’ to our timetable. Find out more information at their website (https://www.rocksteadymusicschool.com/) and watch out for the next step in our future newsletters.

Music Curriculum
We link many of our music lessons to our themed units and perform at many of the year group outcomes. We have a wide selection of instruments to play in our ‘hands on’ class music sessions, including a drum kit, boomwhackers and keyboards. We are also using technology to increase our existing understanding of the orchestral families and composition.
