Community Links

Our community links at Alverstoke Junior School is vast.  We are very lucky to have Alverstoke Lawn Tennis Club facilities available to use.  The children use this club for for an academy session and an afterschool club.

Messy Church This is run by St Mary’s Church on the fourth Thursday of every month and Good Friday for families to join together in craft activities and a short service and to share a meal.

Every year the choir sing Christmas carols to the residents of nursing homes. This is very much enjoyed by both children and residents.

The Michaelmas Fayre is an annual event held by St Mary’s Church.  The school  has a stall at this very popular village event which is attended by many.  The choir sing at the evening performance.

The annual Christmas Tree festival at St Mary’s Church is another very popular event that we take part in.  Our pianists and choir perform to the congregation and our Christmas Tree is decorated accordingly. After the event our Christmas Tree is displayed in the school entrance.

Global Ocean Race Pupils will be following the progress of one of the yachts competing in the Global Ocean race due to leave Gosport in September 2015.  the race organisers and one of the skippers have made an initial visit to the school at an assembly.  The next stage is to make a specific link with a class or year group who will have the opportunity to find out more about the equipment, boats, and local business involved in sailing.  This will then link with a specific boat finding out more about that particular boat and crew.  During 2015, they will visit ‘their’ boat and then follow the progress of that boat in the race maintaining contact with the crew.
