Katey Malam – Katey is married and has two daughters, aged 13 and 10. The girls have grown up in Alverstoke and have progressed through the Infants, Juniors and now her eldest attends Bay House School. Katey has lived in Alverstoke for over 20 years which is the longest she has lived anywhere having grown up in an army family and moved all around the UK and abroad. Katey initially became a parent governor because she wanted to become more involved with the school’s ongoing efforts to improve. Her background then, and now, is as an electronic engineering graduate who worked in the silicon design and software industries for many years prior to having a family. She is passionate about promoting Maths and Science in school and to girls in particular. Katey sees her role as a ‘critical friend’ to the school – being supportive, and yet challenging where necessary.
Deryn Martin – Deryn has been a Foundation Governor since 2013 and has link responsibility for Pupil Premium. She is Deputy Chair of the Finance and Staffing Committee and this year was elected as Vice Chair of the Governing Body. She’s an ex-pupil of the school having attended in the 1970s. Her son and daughter also attended and have now moved on to Bay House. In her day job Deryn is a full time civil servant currently working for the Office of National Statistics.
Jean Morgan – ex-officio – Jean started her Governor journey by being appointed as a Foundation Parent Governor when her children were attending Alverstoke Junior School and she found it be a very worthwhile role. She has served in most positions on the Governing Body and is committed to helping the school progress.
Tim Sharman – Tim is married with 3 adult children, all of whom were pupils at the school in the 90s. He has lived in Alverstoke since 1990, working locally in the RN and defence industry. He is a member of St Mary’s choir and occasionally leads an evensong service. He is also a long-standing member of Logos Community Church (Gosport). Now retired, he is delighted to have the opportunity to support the School as a Foundation Governor”.
Debbie Thomas- I am married, and had the privilege of becoming a foundation governor in 2019, and SEN governor in 2020. I have attended St Mary’s church Alverstoke for the past 20 years, and served on the PCC, and deanery synod. I am a graduate and work as a teaching assistant for an agency. Previously I have been in the dental industry as a civilian dental nurse for the navy and army, and a dental sales manager.
Hazel Ward – Married with 2 adult children, Hazel has lived in Alverstoke for 23 years. She works full time as a Civil Servant in a Government Commercial Function role. Having had previous experience as a school governor at another school in the area, and as a member of St Mary’s Church, Alverstoke, Hazel volunteered to be a Foundation governor at AJS in 2019. She is looking forward to working with the staff, parents, pupils and governors at the school and hopes to participate in more activities when the lockdown restrictions are eased.
Gareth Davis –Gareth is married with three children and has lived in Alverstoke for 15 years. He works in Portsmouth within the Aerospace industry heading up IT Transformation and Change. Within the parish Gareth attends Alverstoke Evangelical Church where he is serving as the Church Secretary. He is actively involved in the Church outreach and social events and also on the leadership team for Sunday school where he teaches children between the ages of 11 – 16. He enjoys spending time with family, cycling and science fiction.
