Travel to School

Whilst the responsibility for pupils travelling to and from school rests with parents, we encourage walking, scooting or cycling at least part of the journey as this is beneficial to health and the environment and reduces congestion around the school entrances. We work with the School Travel Team and Living Streets and have a Travel Plan (see the Policies section of this website).

We recognise that not all pupils are able to walk from home and we encourage ‘Park and Stride’ and ‘Scoot from the Boot’ to try to establish a walking zone around the school.  We have identified suitable locations where pupils may be dropped and collected after school (see Travel Plan). If it is unavoidable to drop off, we ask that you consider the residents by not blocking driveways, not stopping close to junctions and not parking on pavements.  We especially ask that you do not use Tebourba Drive for dropping off as there have been ‘near misses’ due to inconsiderate parking.

We have adequate storage for bicycles and scooters.

Active Travel Group

We have an Active Travel Team consisting of Travel Ambassadors in each year group who are responsible for promoting active travel and working with two Junior Road Safety Officers sharing road safety messages. Travel Tracker, a website developed and maintained by Living Streets, is used for recording journeys to and from school enabling badges to be issued for those using active travel.

In 2013, 2015 and 2017 our JRSO teams won the Regional Championships and were selected to compete at the Champion of Champions at Hampshire Fire and Safety Headquarters at Eastleigh.

Modeshift STARS

Modeshift STARS is the national awards scheme that recognises schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel.  The scheme encourages schools across the country to join in a major effort to increase levels of sustainable and active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children and our environment.

We received our Bronze accreditation in July 2016 followed by Silver in July 2017 and Gold in September 2018 and were South East School of the Region 2019.
